TD TOOLS TECHNOLOGY UPDATE
MARCH 2025

Is Problem Solving A Lost Art?
Problem solving requires a unique skill set, determination, and an ability to see potential in solutions that might not be conventional. All but one of the TD Tools product lines were developed as a request to solve a customer problem (or opportunity as we see it) and that opportunity was widespread enough that we began to offer the solution for other customers.
Assessing a problem requires an ability to understand the barriers or issues that are preventing success and the causes of the issues. Having a full grasp of the cause may require research or testing of the tool or process to re-create the issue and better understand it.

Once the cause is understood, formulating ideas for a solution is the next step. These potential solutions might involve a minor change to the design that changes operating parameters in the tool or it might be a radical departure from the current process with a completely new design to find a more reliable or more efficient path to success. Potential solutions are evaluated through technical evaluations and computer modeling to pick the ideas most likely to be successful. After consensus, a prototype is built or parts modified to allow for testing and evaluation.

Prototype Wash Tool Testing
Function testing of the potential solution, whether it is a tool modification, process modification or a completely new tool, is performed with testing conditions that are as close to operating conditions as possible. Data is gathered to help assess the performance of the system during testing. This data might include perforation hole size, cutting depth, pressure, flow, sand usage, or tool wear. Once testing is complete, the solution is evaluated to determine if it is viable for the customer. Finding a reliable, cost effective solution that achieves the goals of the project is the standard to which all of our products are held.
