Descaling 360° With Low Flow and High Pressure
Wash tools and high pressure jetting tools are often used to remove scale, paraffin, and other deposits that build up in tubing and casing. Challenges for these tools include not providing a full 360 degree radius of impact, meeting flow rates required to make the tool rotate, failure of the rotation mechanism during cleaning, temperature limitations or chemical compatibility concerns. TD Tools and Accu-Line Well Services have developed a tubing conveyed wash tool that solves these problems- the AccuPulse™ Tool.
AccuPulse™ Tool Cleaning 2-7/8" Production Tubing
The patented AccuPulse™ tool utilizes a slit orifice that wraps the entire circumference of the tool. This design allows for 360 degree circumferential coverage without any moving parts. It also provides the exact same coverage pattern at low pressure and high pressure with no concern for failure of components found in rotating tools like bearings or shaft seals. The metal on metal construction does not contain any rubber seals allowing it to be used in high temperature environments as well as with acids and other chemical treatments.

AccuPulse also has a compact size- 8 inches in length and 1-11/16" OD that fits in and passes through most well constrictions. Due to its innovative design, the AccuPulse flow rate is field adjustable with common hand tools and can produce a range of flows and pressures. In one configuration the AccuPulse can produce 3,000 psi at 10 gpm (0.25 bbl/min) of flow. This setup is ideal for smaller coiled tubing and can also utilize test pumps to run the job. In another configuration, the tool can be adjusted to flow 3 bbl/min at 5,000 psi allowing for greater flow to provide enhanced circulation and return circulation velocities.

The AccuPulse also comes in different spray angle versions. The spray impact can be 90 degrees with respect to the tubing or casing being cleaned or it can angle ahead of the tool or behind the tool. When cleaning certain areas of downhole valves or other production equipment, the direction of the spray can be optimized for better cleaning of the specific equipment geometry.

The 360 degree spray coverage makes the AccuPulse perfect for cleaning casing perforations as illustrated in the demonstration above. With the combination of full radius coverage, reliable design, and high pressure at low flow, the AccuPulse tool is a home run for many cleaning applications.
